Homs Governor: Electric power production in province expanding

Homs, SANA – Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi said that the state of the electric power in the province is acceptable and power production is expanding, as two steam-powered turbines will become operational soon to provide clean environment-friendly electricity.

Touring the Jandar power plant on Tuesday, al-Barazi said that the station is operating well thanks to the diligent efforts of its staff and technicians, and that workers in this sector are doing their best around the clock despite constant threats and attacks on power facilities and lines by terrorists.

In turn, director of Homs Power Company Mosleh al-Hassan said that a number of projects for providing alternative energy sources are currently being studied, including wind farms.

He noted that the power sector in Syria managed to persevere despite terrorist attacks and lack of fuel.

Plant director Zakaraya Amer said the facility is operative at full capacity, generating 700 megawatts of energy, adding that a project for expanding the plant by adding two turbines is underway, which would raise the plant’s capacity to 900 megawatts.
