Lavrov calls for increasing effectiveness of counter-terrorism

Moscow, SANA-Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov affirmed on Wednesday that increasing the effectiveness of counter-terrorism along with doubling efforts to launch the political settlement in countries that witness crises in the Middle East is considered as a joint target for residents of the region and the international community.

Lavrov, meeting Patriarch Mar Ignatius Aphram II of Antioch and All the East, added that representatives of all sects and ethnic groups in the Middle East are suffering from the atrocities and brutality perpetrated by terrorists of the Islamic State (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra.

Patriarch Aphram II, for his part, affirmed that Christians and Muslims of Syria appreciate the aid offered by the Russian people against terrorism in order to restore peace and security to the Homeland.

He was confident in Russia’s ability to help launch a political process for the crisis in Syria that brings together all sides which have the willingness to cooperate with the legitimate government in reconstructing Syria.
