Hanoi, SANA – Speaker of the Syrian People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Lahham on Monday met heads of delegations participating in the meetings of the 132nd session on the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) currently being held in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Al-Lahham met head of the IPU Saber Chowdhury and stressed to him the need for the Union to play a role in confronting terrorism and pressuring certain governments to stop inciting chaos, calling for lifting the sanctions imposed by a number of countries on Syria.
The speaker also discussed with head of the Czech delegation to the IPU meetings, Deputy Stanislav Grospic, means to develop bilateral parliamentary relations to boost cooperation and friendship between the two countries.
Meeting Italian Senators Pier Ferdinando Casini and Francesco Amoruso, al-Lahham called on European parliaments to stand for justice and people’s interests against terrorists, noting that Europe will become very vulnerable to terrorism if the world fails to confront this threat.
In the same context, al-Lahham met Deputy Speaker of Afghanistan’s House of Elders, Mohammad Alam Ezedyar, and discussed with him means to develop parliamentary relations and the possibility of cooperation in combating terrorism.
The Speaker also met Armenian National Assembly Deputy Karine Atshemyan, discussing with her developing parliamentary cooperation and stressing the need to further develop the strong historic relations between the two countries.
The 132nd session of the IPU meetings began on Saturday in Hanoi, and will conclude on April 1st.
