Syria and Iran ink agreement to enhance military and security cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Syria and Iran on Wednesday signed a comprehensive military agreement to strengthen military and security cooperation at various fields of work of the armed forces in the two friendly countries.

The agreement was signed after a number of meetings and work sessions held by the two sides, headed by Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, Defense Minister Gen. Ali Abdullah Ayoub, and Chief of General Staff of Iranian Armed Force, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri.

At the joint final statement of the two delegations, they  affirmed the need to continue coordination between the two sides and continue facing multiple and increasing challenges and dangers, on top of which is the continuation to facing the Takfiri terrorism supported by regional and international powers in all their names and forms.

The Syrian-Iranian relationship is a firm strategic relationship, Ayoub said in a joint press conference, adding that the mutual military and security cooperation is remarkable and continuous as it covers all aspects despite increasing pressure and threats.

He stressed that any new challenges will be faced with more determination to adhere to the principles and create the environment required to overcome “the new chapter of open war” through the efforts of all the Syrian people and cooperation with friends and allies who seek to confront terrorism in all its forms, colors and names.

For his part, Bagheri affirmed that the peoples of the region, the axis of the resistance, Iran and Syria are determined to develop and strengthen military, defense and security relations, noting that the agreements and cooperation will continue and “this agreement strengthens our will and our determination for cooperation.”
