Syria, Belarus discuss mechanisms to increase volume of trade exchange

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mohammad Samer al-Khalil discussed on Tuesday with the Belarusian Industry Minister Vitaly Vovk means of enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and economy.

Al-Khalil affirmed the importance of continuous communication between the Syrian Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and the Belarusian Embassy in Damascus, calling for the need to complete the executive steps in terms of expanding the basis of cooperation between the two countries.

He pointed out that the Ministry will coordinate with the Syrian-Belarusian Business Council and the Syrian private sector to take practical steps to develop and stimulate trade and investment cooperation, calling the Belarusian Republic to participate in the 59 edition of Damascus International Fair as it is the largest and oldest exhibition in the region and provides a great opportunity to companies to reach the Syrian market.

The minister pointed out that Syria needs to benefit from the capabilities and expertise of Belarus in the field of heavy industries and infrastructure, especially in the reconstruction stage.

In turn, Vovk said that his visit aims at enhancing cooperation between the two countries in various fields and activating the work of the Syrian-Belarusian Joint Committee, describing the measures and steps taken by the Syrian side as a road map that can be followed to increase the volume of trade exchange between Damascus and Minsk.

The Belarusian minister stressed the importance of boosting the work of the Joint Committee through activating the working teams affiliated to it, in addition to the need to activate cooperation between businessmen in the two friendly countries.
